The Story of Acacia
The acacia tree, native to both Africa and Australia, symbolises the journey of Acacia Commercial. Our founder, originating from Zimbabwe, relocated to Australia in early 2000, making Queensland home. Since that time, our history reflects the opportunities and growth, both professionally and personally, that has culminated in the creation of Acacia Commercial; providing an opportunity to give back, in appreciation, to the industry that has sustained us over the decades.
The acacia tree has always been symbolic in the African culture, protecting the surrounding habitat, providing a source of shelter and food to the animals, insects and birds, and being prolific in its growth. Yet it has impressive thorns, protecting its assets so as to remain strong and ready to sustain the ecosystem, of which it is a vital component.
The acacia can grow into a towering presence, relying on it’s deep roots to sustain the visible sanctuary offered by its shade and sustenance, still offering this shelter and strength to others whilst enduring the harshest conditions.

Our Experience
David Watt
Acacia Commercial is led by David Watt, a seasoned leader with over 30 years of expertise in commercial, risk, contract, and project management, as well as significant general management and Board experience. His career spans both on-site and corporate settings across diverse global markets, including Australia, Canada, South America, Asia Pacific, the United Kingdom, and Southern Africa. David has worked in various industries such as rail, high-rise construction, industrial and commercial infrastructure, mining, and power generation.
Proven in managing entities and projects valued up to $35 billion, David brings extensive experience across private and public sectors, from Tier 1 organizations to government entities. He has served in senior leadership roles up to the Board and Executive level, collaborating with boards of directors, CEOs, government entities, and key stakeholders to deliver strategic and operational success.
As a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and a Quantity Surveyor by degree and training, David has developed his skills in all areas of the built environment, both technical and management. He thrives in the Board environment, both as a director and in the executive team reporting to the Board. To consolidate his skills in this area, David attained his Graduate certification from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
